But nothing as definitional. No previous president would have attempted – genuinely, no former commander would have conceived – solo demolishing major areas of the executive mansion to construct a Versailles-style party room, with the active collaboration of multiple America's wealthiest, almost all of whom have business with the government.

As disorienting as it is to watch the leader attempt to overturn the old idea regarding democracy and substitute it with its direct contrary, there is one large group among Americans who wouldn't consider it entirely new. So I have been heartened to observe the steadfast resistance regarding Trump emerge during the previous year.
